The goal of the AORTIC African Cancer Leaders Institute (ACLI) is to develop the next generation of leaders in cancer research, advocacy, education, policy, and clinical practice in Africa. The ACLI will develop activities for individuals who commit to provide leadership in cancer for Africa. The ACLI will commission workshops, satellite meetings, exchanges, and other activities to compliment the professional competencies of ACLI participants.
 
The inauguration of the ACLI will occur at the AORTIC 2013 meeting in Durban, South Africa, 21-24 November 2013. The ACLI is conceived as a “meeting within a meeting” and will take place at the biennial AORTIC meeting. ACLI participants will be expected to attend the regular AORTIC scientific sessions, but also participate in lunchtime meeting sessions designed specifically for the ACLI, as well as meet with mentors individually.
 
Applicants will be selected on a competitive basis through an evaluation of submitted applications and other required documents.  A limited number of travel awards will be available to qualified candidates.

CANCER ADVOCACY MASTER TRAINER PROGRAM (by invitation only)

This workshop will focus on training 25 Master Trainers in one of the following advocacy areas: Political, Education, Research, Fundraising, Support, and Community Outreach (with about four participants in each group). Participants will be selected through a rigorous screening process based on: (i) interest and involvement in advocacy; (ii) personal commitment to cancer advocacy; (iii) tangible goals and feasible plan to train a minimum of 100 advocates within two years; and (iv) evidence of organization’s commitment to meet advocacy training goals.

CANCER ADVOCACY WORKSHOP AND EXPO

The 2nd Biennial International Workshop on Cancer Advocacy for African Countries (CAAC) is open to all AORTIC 2013 delegates and will provide participants the skills to: (1) mobilize the resources within African countries for health promotion, prevention, and survivorship strategies; (2) partner with key stakeholders to accomplish targeted objectives; (3) raise funds to support advocacy activities; and (4) develop and successfully organize community-centered programs. The theme for the 2nd biennial conference is: “Cancer Advocacy: Tools for Political, Education, Research, Fundraising, Support and Community Outreach Advocacies”.
